Greetings, dear friends and shoe enthusiasts! I'm Angela, the proud founder of Miriam Bella, thrilled to share our story – a tale weaving my personal journey, a passion for vibrant fashion, and a commitment to transforming lives.

Early Years and Education
Born and raised in the village of Lelmokwo, Nandi County where our factory now stands, my rural Kenyan upbringing instilled a deep appreciation for community and the struggles faced by those in need. At 19, I journeyed from Kenya to Perth, Australia, delving into computer science and economics. Subsequent adventures took me through Atlanta, Georgia, to Des Moines, Iowa, immersing myself in the dynamic world of technology.

Professional Journey
In Boston, as the third employee of a promising startup, I witnessed its growth to over 50 employees, savoring success. However, my heart yearned for something more – a purpose beyond profit. After seven years, I returned to Australia, settling in Melbourne, where Miriam Bella's seeds were sown.

Inspiration and Mission
A poignant connection to my roots became the driving force behind the dream. Each visit to my parents in the Kenyan village revealed the harsh reality of worsening economic conditions. My father, once the village's employer, found employment opportunities had vanished, exacerbating the plight of my community.

Entrepreneurial Spark

Driven by an analytical mind and a desire for change, I stumbled upon a World Bank report highlighting Kenya's leather industry potential. The report envisioned the development of tanneries for high-quality leather exports and the emergence of a thriving leather goods market, including shoes. Struck by the absence of footwear manufacturers targeting the global market, I embraced the challenge.

Miriam Bella's Inception
In 2019, Miriam Bella faced its first test by joining Swinburn University's School of Social Impact accelerator program, garnering recognition and an award for its potential to create meaningful change. Thus, Miriam Bella was born – a brand with a heart as colorful as our handcrafted high-heeled shoes.

Social Impact
Miriam Bella transcends fashion; it's about creating opportunities for the marginalized. We employ and uplift poor women and men in rural Kenya, providing them with skills and a chance for a brighter future.

Craftsmanship and Hope
Each pair of shoes embodies the rich hues of African fabric, the craftsmanship of skilled hands, and the spirit of hope for a community striving to break free from the chains of poverty.

A Tribute to a Grandmother's Legacy

Our brand is more than a business; it's a tribute to the spirit of our ancestors, particularly my beloved grandmother. She had a remarkable ability to find beauty in simplicity, turning everyday items into works of art. I remember the intricate beadwork she adorned her sotets with, transforming these humble milk gourds into objects of admiration. Her legacy lives on in every pair of shoes we create – a testament to her creativity and love for beautiful things.

Crafting Beauty, Changing Lives

At Miriam Bella, we merge the elegance of 100% leather with the vibrant hues of waxed African fabric, paying homage to our cultural heritage. The intricate beading, inspired by the rich traditions of East African craftsmanship, adorns our shoes, adding a touch of tradition to contemporary elegance.

Join us in this journey, not just as customers but as partners in making a positive impact. Step into Miriam Bella, where every pair carries a story, and every purchase contributes to a vibrant tapestry of change. Together, let's stride towards a world where fashion meets compassion, one pair of high-heeled shoes at a time.

Thank you for being a part of our story.

Warm regards,

Angela Magut
